Default Topping up Adblue and that white funnel

Hi everyone,

When we got the car the salesman told us that the white funnel in amongst the car jack set in the boot was to help adding AdBlue. I decided to top-up the fluid as it's down to half and that funnel does not fit the opening. It's too big.

Is it for something else?

Also can anyone suggest a foolproof way to add AdBlue as I'm struggling with the new container and spout. It either dribbles in or comes flooding back out. This is followed by panicked washing down of the paintwork below even though it didn't get that far. I must be doing something wrong!

Happy New Year!!

Paul

The white funnel is used to fill with petrol or diesel from a can, not for Adblue

I bought one of these as the RR has the filler in a stupid location.

Would help with Volvo too

I always have a problem topping up the adblue in my Audi if the car is on a slope. Then the adblue does not go in the car, only down the paintwork and away down the road. Never had a problem when parked on the flat and it goes in quite quickly.

Just use the filling connector that comes with the adblue container. Filled mine earlier in the week from a 10 litre container, using the supplied flexible connector.
The XC60 is a doddle compared to my onl discovery sport, the adblue was at the back of the engine compartment. I had to decant into smaller containers to refill.

All diesel cars with capless fillers, like Volvo, Ford and Honda, are supplied with a plastic funnel. This is for filling with a can if necessary but mainly because the filler neck is designed for the standard car size filling station nozzle. Commercial vehicle and home bunkered fuel pipes generally have a larger plain nozzle that will not fit.
As it happens I have one of each of those brands of cars and have my own 3500 litre fuel store to fill them. So I use a funnel every time these vehicles are refuelled and need to hold the nozzle steady in the funnel. No auto-cutoff of fuel flow.

Thanks, everyone for your comments and suggestions. This is our first Adblue car so the possible use of the white funnel seemed sensible. Salesmen, eh! The angled funnel does look like it would do the job but I'm balking a bit at the price which is the going rate everywhere. I guess it's a one-time purchase that will remove all the worry at refill time.

Q. Does the heavily engineered and angled funnel, which is available from various suppliers, somehow stop the flow when the little tank is full?
I avoided using a small funnel due to not being able to see when the level is approaching the neck.

Happy New Year!

I've just watched a Laser video of their product and it seems that it does shut off the flow when the level reaches the end of the pipe. They may have another customer here.
