Default XC60 T8 Dash Cam Wiring

Hi all,

Picking up a MY20 T8 XC60 at the end of the month and need to fit my dash cam.

Can anyone confirm best location for a switched live and ground please - will be using a 'piggy back' fuse connector for the switched live.

Anyone have any experience or comments on installing in these cars - never had a Volvo before so its all new....

Thanks for your help.

Welcome.

This is a popular topic for discussion.

This thread might be of help.

Otherwise, if you search the forum for Dash Cam, you will see discussions on types and positioning.

Put mine next to the sensor on top of the windshield, passenger side. Hidden under the A plilar down to the passenger footwell where the fuses are located.
Bear in mind volvo use micro2 fuse
Been using this set up for over a year now without any issues. All sensors functions without interuption.

Bit of a late response, but I've just joined the forum.

I placed my dashcam to the left of the Sensus module, ran the cable along the roof liner, inside the front of the A pillar (DO NOT cross the A pillar as it could affect airbag deployment) and down below the glove compartment to the fusebox. I used fuse 58 as that is used for a TV in some models, but I don't have a TV so it's all good. The ground point is a fixing bolt that sits just at the front of the fuse box as you look at it.

Problem for me is the rear optional camera doesn't have a long enough cable to connect to the main unit!!

I don't know what dashcam / rear camera you have but I'm in the process of installing a similar system (removed from my last car). I sourced and bought a new wiring kit and looking at the new rear camera cable I realise that it's simply a USB, male x male cable. If your cable is the same a longer or maybe extension cable is the answer.

I cheated and just ran a cable to power supply in the boot. Cables hidden in the trim all the way through, but for those (like me) who don't like the idea of playing with fuses it's so much simpler.

It's this one I got, comes with a 5.9m cable for the rear camera but it's not quite long enough to run around all the trim and conceal it properly. Even tried running it along the floor but no joy. Easiest way I think would be for me to take the roof liner down and run the cable past the sunroof straight to the front camera. Actually, sack that, the easiest thing is to just not bother with the rear camera

As an observation forgetting the rear camera is not a good idea. 6 months after fitting mine I got hit from the rear by a delivery van. Minor shunt = 2K cost. Not helped by the fact that the driver took off when he realized I wanted details. Camera footage helped considerably with claim, to the extent that when I discovered after 18 months that my insurance company had recorded the incident as partly my fault Reference to the camera evidence made them change their records.

Regarding the cable it's difficult to be sure but everything from the link you provided suggests the rear cable is simply a micro/mini USB. A quick look at the cable or sockets would confirm. I've measured my new cable and it's roughly 8 M and is for a Thinkware f770. It cost about £13 delivered and I found it on line.

I know mine was a V90 but the route I followed was across top of screen, left hand side, down A pillar, behind glovebox, down to floor level ,below trims etc back to the rear, up the back then into the tailgate via the rubber flexible thing. (this was the most difficult bit). Obviously at all stages the wire was hidden behind trim and secured with cable ties as appropriate. When finished the only cables visible were from the trim to front camera (say 50mm) and from the rear camera to the trim, again about 50mm

Yeah the rear camera cable has a small aux connection to the front camera and fixed at the rear camera end, but there is a little junction in the cable. If I can split that then I could get a longer cable. Will look into it, cheers.

I just have a separate camera at the back, no long cable to worry about.
