And yes don't I just know it about the belts that's what killed the d5 in the 90 hence why I'm getting them done on this so "I know" it's done.

And also agree with the buy once cry once aswell.

Anything else that should be done in that area while I'm in there?

I’d be taking a good look at the alternator clutch pulley as well, there a wearing part with no change interval but are often the cause of belt failures or belt noises. You can easily check them as the pulley is a one way bearing basically and slips only one way. They allow the alternator to keep turning at speed as the engine speed drops during slowing ect. It helps reduce vibration and wear on the belt or so they say. You might find a plastic cap on the end of the pulley, I’d pop that off and have a look. Signs of wear is normally grease escaping from the bearing or any signs of belt dusting around the pulley that indicates belt slippage. You do need a special tool to remove them and you need to unbolt the alternator but there not difficult to do. YouTube will show you all.

Check that the water pump is a genuine one. If it is, it'll say "Aisin" on it and possibly have a Volvo stamp.

If its an aftermarket one (i.e. doesn't say Aisin), change it for a proper genuine one.

You can see the pump when changing the belts, especially as you have to take the driver's wheel and wheel arch liner off to access the tensioner properly.

I would imagine it was an original as it was done by Volvo at Cambridge at 191k it's now on 241k. I have a kit which I got for the XC90 never used it so I have a spare genuine one.

It'll be fine then. If Volvo replaced it, they use nothing only genuine.

The genuine pumps rarely fail. So much so, on a cam belt change, Volvo don't actually replace the water pump. Its the aftermarket ones that don't last as long.

As you predicted the alternator pulley is away never really noticed it until today when I started it and it was really noisy the belt was bouncing all over the place so that's another part to add to the list.

Change it ASAP - if the belt breaks it may well take the timing belt + engine with it. They have been known to rip out the tensioner from the block... One area where I never stint on original parts...

The XC90 died due to idler pulley failure took the timing belt with it.

S80 is currently sait with the wheel off waiting on the new belts pulley and tensioner turning up this week.

I agree with the tensioner plus this generation it's easier to deal with than the one on the XC90 that was a faff.

Done quite a bit over the past few weeks.

Changed the power steering pump due to it been worn out(expected as it's at 240k).

Both aux belts done tensioner and alternator pulley ( hate having to buy a tool just for one job &#128514.

Took it out yesterday for a proper drive and guess what cut out at the petrol station but I wasn't getting fuel for the car it was for my saws. Completely refused to start again.

No fault codes at all just the same low actual fuel pressure and what it was demanding.

And it's also sprung a coolant leak from the thermostat housing around the gasket which the hose connects to and I can't find a part number for that bit?.

AND to top it all off today while I was looking for access to the in tank fuel pump (which inlayer found is a tank drop job&#128557 under the rear bench was wet soooo incoming interior strip showed the spare wheel well had a inch of water in it and also found a tile tracker stuffed in the rear drivers vent in the rear quarter in a tk maxx bag?!? Bit sus to me.

If your a previous owner lurking it's a car that spent it life in Cambridge area.

Still need to find where the water is coming from tho it was also under the navy dvd ROM drive.

Needless to say the wife is no happy her car is spread around between the server room for drying and v/S70 for storage of the dry stuff and the non running issue.

Found the leak it was coming from the vents behind the rear bumper the white rubber had gone hard and wasn't stopping water soo if you have water in the wheel well id check there first and it's a cheap fix if you get the ford cmax part as the part number comes up for them opposing the Volvo one at 53 each.

Fuel issue seems to be sorted only took a replacement fuel pump in the tank the other was sticking. All the hoses on the carrier were bla with grime or something Not translucent like they should be.

Soo if your having a issue like I've had it would be worth having a look there as all the rest seems to get really expensive really quickly.

Last job to do is the swirlflaps.

Anyone fancy a iPod/usb kit? Removed it after I don't have the need for it.
