Is it worth buying Volvo Service Plan + ?
I have just taken delivery of a 200bhp XC90 and am very impressed indeed having come via a VW Sharan. Not taken over 3000 revs yet but seems very responsive. I had forgotten the number of insurance offers made by the dealers at the pick up but one that did seem worthwhile was the Volvo Service Plan + . It covers labour parts and oil and the 5 year deal extends the warranty to 5 years with Volvo assistance. It seems to cover everything apart from wear and tear items like brake pads and discs etc. The five year deal costs £3078 and can be interest free with 54 monthly payments of £57. I’m probably going to keep the car for 5 years at least – what do you think? Is it worth signing up? It is just under a third of the amount I saved going via Drive the Deal. Mike

I too would be very interested to hear peoples views on this. I was trying to work out the cost of 5 years servicing and Assistance and working on the principle that the remainder of the cost is the purchase of an extra 2 years warranty. The cost is interest free over 54 months and I was thinking that, with all the 'Quantative Easing' going on by the government, then we are likely to have high inflation over the next few years and then this may then look cheap! Any thoughts?

I took out the 5 year plan on my 2011my 185 D5.the monthly cost was £51. When you consider inflation, increase in VAT etc, the deal sems fair. Plus if you pay monthly then decide before the 5 years that you want to sell the car, you just stop your standing order. Anyway, the payments are not over 5 years but 54 months (from memory) so the last 6 months are free.
Hope this helps. |

when i bought my volvo last year, there was a three year maintanace plan (oil changes basically) for 3 years. It was 300. First years RAC was free.
So I think 3k for 5 years servicing, 4 years RAC and 2 years extended warranty is very high. After my 3 year plan is up, the car will be 4, and outside warranty. I may get a warranty direct plan which ive been quoted for 3 years at 800quid, and get serviced by an independent. |

Surely there must be a mileage limit - what happens if you cover miles quicker than the average person? I can't see them paying for servicing for five years if you're doing say 20k/year.

Currently, my car is covered by the service package (3 years, 3x18,000mi max) which I bought for £300. |
