Default washers

hi all,
my screen washers appear to have frozen up ( only -8 this morning), anyone recomend decent washer fluid that won't freeze in the pipes? Also can anyone tell me which fuse controls the washer fluid pump please?

thanks lesk

I have been struggling to find washer fluid that will go below 6 deg. Halfrauds, Asda and Tesco don't.

Tried to fill our washers up this morning, but couldn't because the screen wash was frozen in the 5 ltr container which we keep in the boot.

I screwed up in another thread. My washer nozzles aren't heated, the clear area around them was due to a lack of insulation around the fitting. Doh. But at least they worked.

The Auto Glym screenwash is comparable to Mercedes product, and cheaper. I have never known either to freeze, even when used in Aberdonian winters.

I added some neat anti freeze to my washer fluid, it hasn't frozen so far.

NOT a good idea, antifreeze will remove paint rather quickly, ECP sell some excellent german made screenwash that protects to -60 so evem mixing 3 -1 will give more than adequate protection

Taken from the AA website:

"Windscreen washer fluid should be topped up and treated with a proprietary additive to reduce the chance of freezing in frosty weather. Don't use ordinary engine antifreeze as it will damage paintwork"

I have some undiluted stuff from Halfords that I use and tend to make stronger then the normal amount I haven't had any problems with it freezing so far and you can addition neat if you need too which from memory is good for very low temps.

No one has mentioned the Volvo stuff yet! its £2.75 a litre bottle and works ...( been using it the last 30+ winters including 1981 ) dont buy those 200 ml bottles at £1.20 . Their spray de icer is the best i have ever used too , but they arent selling it this year .. at less than -5C the cheap car plan etc stuff is useless .
