Uneven clicking sound from motor V70 2.4 2004

Hi all,

On a car I want to buy:

Does anyone recognise what this clicking / tapping sound is? As you hear, it increases with revs, but is uneven not following a pattern. Sounds like tapping a small hammer on metal, then with revs, sounds like a creaking sound when they run together.

The check engine lamp has started to blink, so guess I a coil or two needs to be chsnged. But I don't know if they are related.

Any other symptoms when you rev the engine, Petter? E.g. smoke?
Mileage?
Colour / condition of oil? Any other clues would be helpful.

The 'check engine' light can point to several unrelated issues. I have a borderline sensor which causes mine to illuminate but does not otherwise affect the car's operation or performance.

In the absence of any other information, an irregular noise like that would suggest belt squeal or possible bearing (Aircon?) failure to me - but noises can be very deceptive.

Remove the serpentine belt and start the engine for a few moments to eliminate any issues from tensioner pulleys, alternator, A/C compressor
