Default 760 fuel supply problem

My 1990 760 has always liked to have a full tank of fuel - go much under 30 litres and it will hardly pull, and fits and starts abominably.

As it needed a new engine (old one was totally knackered) I have built and intalled one, with a different injector pump and thought this would sort out all running problems. It has - except this one!

As far as I am aware there is no in tank pump on the diesel 740 and 760 - though failure of this in the petrols will cause this problem - so I am in the dark. There is a new engine bay filter fitted, and the fuel filler cap is fine, indeed, the problem happens without a cap on so there is no vacuum in the tank.

I will get the top off and have a look at the gauze next week; I have never seen one blocked on these, but one never knows!

Am I wrong and did some models have an in tank pump on the diesels as well?

Any other ideas?

Regards

John D

I think the fuel pickup pipe in the tank is cracked/split, allowing air into the fuel line. when the tank's full the split will be covered.
I have a 740 td, I am pretty sure there is no in-tank pump on them

I think volvo-express was having similar problems so he might be interested to know if you have found a fix.

There is no in tank pump, and mesh etc. was o.k.. Problem is probably the injector pump not pulling through efficiently, will change it and tell you the result.
