Default Cracked spring and tyre wear

Hi

I have a 2001 V40 2.0t sport

The last pair of tyres i had on the back wore badly on the inside quarter on both sides.
The car always seemed low on the rear aswell but didn't get a chance to get to it. So unsurprisingly the new tyres are now wearing nicely on the inner quarter.
I'm now a few weeks from mot time so i had al four wheels off to investigate this and a few other niggles..

I found the spring on one side is cracked but did not see any issue on the other side. Although the car seems equally low on both sides..

I'm thinking of changing the springs pre mot but have a few questions:

1) Does anyone know if the springs are the same for a sport model (seem to remember these are a touch lower from factory?) I've seen lots for sale but none diferentiate between model spec.

2) I will get the tracking done after I've changed the springs but is there any other possible contributory factors i should look at? I'm wondering if a cracked spring on one side would cause the same inside edge uneven wear on both sides?

I recently changed the rear springs on my V40 Sport. The best I found was partsforvolvos online. They do the option for the different models, I think they are dynamic and comfort for the two types.

I would check the main trailing arm bushes as well.

Had a look on Parts For Volvos, can't see an option for dynamic and comfort.. Just t4 non t4..

I will have a better look at bushes when i get to the springs, anything in particular to look for? Obvious movement, perishing ect i guess? That may be a job for the sound of it.

Pic of spring attached, bit worried the seat spring on the strut looks bent, wish i'd had a better look.

Sorry my bad I think it is the shocks that are comfort and dynamic. If you speak to Rufe at FRF he will be able to tell you which ones you have, the code is on your vIN plate

I think i have it worked out now..

This link gives the part no. for the rear spring on a 2001> v40 with 2A on the bulkhead plate as: 30618113

And this link gives a KYB part number equivilent as RC5921 which i can pick up at a local motorfactor for £30 a pair..

Had a look at all the bushes just now, none look totally collapsed or anything.. Think i will sling these springs in, get a 4 wheel alignment done and leave any bushes to the professionals..

Also had another look at the spring seat on the damper.. it is bent from when the spring went but only on the lip, think i will get away with it.

Cheers for assistance, appreiciated..

Going to pick up a set of these i think..

Is it worth changing any other spring seats ect. whilst i'm taking the strut apart?

The two piece spring compressors are rubbish and dangerous.

Get a set like these

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/pr...ing-compressor

Three compressors are way better and these ones have locking clips on them. They are what I use and I would recommend them 100%

As for replacing anything else??? Unless your top mounts have gone then there is not really anything else. You could replace the anti roll bar bushes as you will need to remove them to drop the trailing arm to get the suspension off.

This link explains how to do the job

I changed mine without any spring compressors.

I undid the top mount nut, used a scissor jack to take the weight of the shock, undid the bottom bolt and lowered the shock down on the scissor jack slowly.

Then swapped the springs, slide the shock and spring in the top, put a couple of threads on the top mount nut to hold it in plac, used the scissor jack to compress the strut, put the bottom bolt back in and then tightened it all up.

Done two sets of rear shocks like this on X40's and not lost part of my face yet.
