Default Dipstick popped out plus white smoke

The dipstick has popped out on my V40 2.0t a couple of times over the past week, spraying oil on the crankcase in the process. That's in addition to thick smoke at idle and on deccelaration. Any ideas please?

I would look at the PCV system for a start (positive crankcase ventilation). Pressure will build up in the engine itself if this system isn't working properly and I'm assuming the dipstick is popping out to let the excess pressure release. More knowledgeable people should hopefully be here to sort you out soon!

Thank you. I've had a few issues but this dipstick popping out is the biggest concern. I usually end up joining the car clubs that help me out so I hope this is the start of a good relationship

Thanks for that link. I did the test and even though there is no smoke from the dipstick pipe, the oil cap test blew the glove straight off so there is a lot of pressure in there.

Take a look at the one way valves of PCV system, one or the two should be shot.

The PCV is shot , Don't leave it like it as it will cause the crank or cam seals to fail which will cost you .

They only matter when engine's turbo is under boost.

This is all very useful advice, thank you. I think you lot will have yourself a new club member soon 🙂

I'm little concerned I've run the car with it being my daily driver enough to cause that damage already or would it be more obvious if that was the case? The smoke I've been seeing is mostly on deccelaration from 70 to 60 and then at lower speeds and idle. I'm hoping it's excess fuel from running rich.

The only thing I am struggling with now is which pipework to check and whether I should just replace it all.

Thanks again.

That seems to link with the cloud of smoke on deccelaration.
