S40 gdi high fuel consumption

HI, I am finding my S40, 2003, gdi engine is using more fuel than it did before and would appreciate any help in finding the Problem. I can confirm that there are no leaks on any of the fuel pipes, hoses, filter and the tank. I have noticed that there seems to be a strong smell of petrol from the exhaust especially just after start up. After 3 accurate fuel useage checks it is returning 20 miles per gallon for combined whereas before it was easily doing 30 miles per gallon. This is for a mixture of round town driving and then some dual carriageway and motorway. Obviously the air filter is clean as is the throttle body but only the area I can see from when I remove the air intake hose. Hope you can help.
