I'd be surprised if there is anything electronic in the key Ray showed in the original picture. Details? I've a couple of those for my 2000 V70 along with 2 working blippers. The 3 shown by 4x4 are a different matter as they have a fatter body and being 2-toned probably mean they are made in 2 pieces. They might be for P2 or later?

hi everyone and thanks again for all the discussion & contribution. As a kind of closure (for this key issue, not everything else unfortunately!) I just wanted to post, for info, that I have a 'blank' key from a seller on eBay, with no electronics and it all works perfectly, so sure enough my 1994 850 estate T5 doesn't have an immobiliser - as I think the general consensus was.

I find it incredible, by the way, that the seller was able to send me the key cut and ready to use - just from a photo that I took of my original key! It really is that simple to copy it seems (a bit scary). May not be a surprise to (some of) you, but I am quite flabbergasted / impressed!

Still need to sort why I cant set the alarm though (another thread) if anyone can help, then please do!

Keep on Volvo-ing!
