Default Gear lever off centre in neutral

Good afternoon,

First post...

I'm hoping someone might be able to offer advice on the following please?

I have just bought a 2011 XC70 D5 (205bhp) AWD with 106,000 miles on it.

The gear lever (manual) does not seem to return to centre when in neutral, it sits off to the left, away from the driver. It seems fine in all other regards, not floppy, can engage gears with no problems etc.

It just irks me that it doesn't seem to sit where (I think) it should in neutral.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
Take care.

Hi,

I do, the one without my hand in it is where it rests, and the one with my hand pushing it towards the RHS is where I think it should be centered.

Although, having just been out to have another look I'm now questioning if it's meant to be like that. From where it rests I can go straight forward or back into 3rd or 4th, from where I push it to 'centre' I can't go straight forward or back to anything with adding some lateral direction too. It's maybe the reverse in the rear right position that makes it look a little off kilter.

Am I imagining a problem where there is none, maybe they are all like this?

Too much time at home perhaps?...

When I was looking for my XC70 the few manuals I looked at were off centre like this. I don’t think there’s nothing to worry about!
