Default Electronic dipstick reset?

Hi again,

Just done an oil change on the car, I’ve filled the engine until the little piddly dipstick shows oil at the minimum level. Meanwhile the electronic one shows the oil level overfull with an ‘oil level service’ message.

The car was overfull when I bought it, so is there a way to reset the electronic gauge when doing an oil change?

I think the way to get it to ‘reset’ is to drive the car and it will sort itself out. Won’t take long maybe 20 miles? Then you can see the proper reading again. I could be wrong but I’m sure I’ve read it somewhere on here that is what you do.

Thanks, just found the same info online in reference to a newer version.

I’ll give it a try tomorrow.

Short answer is YES. and it involves using VIDA/DICE. Think there may be something on this site.
Historically, I have drained the oil, ( I did intend to measure the volume, but i spilt so much from the filter...... )

I then refill with 5.7 litres of 0w-30 and assume all will be well, as I put 5.7 litres in previously, as did the dealer before me, etc., so I'm assuming the counter will not be unduely affected...

The last oil change was my 3rd I've done on this 2015MY V70 D5, and thus far I've not had any problem with warnings etc.

Cheers
Bob

How many litres of oil did you put in the engine? It should be no more than 5.7 litres (If at the minimum mark, you may need to add some). However, if you've overfilled the engine accidentally, then you may need to drain some oil from the sump so there's no more than 5.7 litres. Then you need to use VIDA to reset the oil counter & reset the electronic oil level sensor.

Ta, it’s got 5.7 litres in now. Was 5.5 when I originally posted. Electronic dipstick now shows ok after using the car, but there’s still a mismatch with the physical stick.
Now I know there’s a reset procedure in vida, I’ll have a look for it.

Thanks .
