What's it worth?
Now I know you can't put a price on something you haven't seen, but I've been offered a 960 estate. Runs and drives,
Interior shot, bodywork rust free but wing and door slightly dented. It's 300 fenland shekels. Worth a punt? I have no more info unfortunately

I would say a qualified yes if it had a half decent MOT 'B.M.'. A 'shot' interior would put a lot of folk off (my wife included) so probably best regarded as a work horse or hack.
If that's what you want and it is OK in other respects, then I would say it's pitched about right, but I would still try an offer though. I don't suppose there will be much of a queue for it given the fuel consumption, so you never know ..... Regards, John.

That registration number is for a 940 rather than a 960 and the corrosion in both sills suggests it is not rust free.

Thanks I enjoyed the laugh. It's a wonder it even got to the MOT test station and back! I can't really see the point of anyone buying it.

I wouldn't touch it with someones elses bargepole, maybe if it had a few parts and it was free maybe but that has had years of neglect, only just getting through MOT's and advisories never being fixed. I am surprised the rust happened in one year too - probably a "friendly" garage tested it beforehand....
You can try mine and see what an MOT history should look like - P394DDF - all advisories fixed within a week of each test but last 3 years passed without any advisories....

I wouldn't touch it with a Fenmans Pole, never mind a bargepole! Maybe for spares if it was a gift but it will need some serious welding and serious stripping down to enable that welding to take place including (but not limited to) dropping the fuel tank, removing the rear seats/carpet and possibly the same in the front, potential removal of the exhaust system and if the rot is really bad where the trailing arms meet the floor, possibly even the back axle as well. The labour for those tasks alone is more than the car would be worth with a years test on it and then there's its identity crisis. It's been sold to you (metaphorically speaking) as a 960 but the DVLA/VoSA say it's a 940 so what is it? Does the seller actually know?

Reading the failure correctly it needs
Rear pads, brake fluid flush Handbrake adjust possible cable/shoes Front brakes looking at rear seatbelt stalk TCA bushes Rear of sills need repair possible rear axle bushes Whilst a fair bit of work its not all that bad considering age an mileage |

I suppose it rather depends upon how much you want a 940 / 960, 'B.M'.
When my 745 finally succumbed to the dreaded iron-ant, I spent ages looking for a decent one at a reasonable price. In the end, unable to find one, I bought a Phase 1 V70 for not a lot more money. I took a chance on the MOT (there was only 4 - 5 months left) but the history was reassuring. In the event, it only required attention to the hand-brake and welding the rear exhaust bracket. There are bargains to be had if you have the luxury the time to look on your side. Regards, John.
