Default Stalk issue

For a while now, when I turn the bezel on the indicator stalk to scroll through the Ave MPG, Ave MPH etc. readouts, the message does not always respond.
Sometimes it does if I pull and twist the ring at the same time.
I think this is a result of poor contacts within the stalk.

I have a Volvo extended warranty, and when I asked the dealer if a fix or replacement would be covered, they told me it should be, but I would have to have a diagnostics first, at a cost of £60 or so, not covered by the warranty.

Why so?
The problem is evidently poor contacts within the stalk.
Is it just an easy revenue earner?

I had an issue of intermittent indicators on my XC70 ( same stalk ) and the circuit board featured below controls indicators and all other functions 0n the stalk
It's a simple job, no cost and totally resolved my issue. I followed the instructions on this guy's video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehNMwbgHY0o

Obviously if you attempt this yourself it is down to you and I'm in no way responsible

Thanks for the suggestion pweilnau (as you see I watched the video).
The contacts I think need attention are at the other end of the stalk however, inside and connected to the twisting ring.
I don't think your repair would fix this.
I might try spraying around the ring with a contact cleaner such as you used.

The fix as per the video is what you need. I had the same issue.

Just had very similar issue with ours; the LH indicator was only working intermittently, or with pressure. Cleaned contacts with pencil rubber and IPA and it's working perfectly again now!
