Default Haldex service; admitting defeat

I've a gen 4 Haldex system in my XC70 and 60. Went to service it today but could not get one of the small bolts out of the filter cover; the inner one (ie most inaccessible). When reviewing Swede's otherwise excellent video i noticed the flange detail on the end of the prop is significantly thicker than that in his video, presumably because his is a T6 and the torque is different, mine being a D5.
I couldn't get the pump off either for the same reason.
Looking a VIDA removing the flange is a SOB of a job and not something I'll be attempting.

Has anyone any other solutions? I could get to the bolt, which uses a 4mm Allen key, but I couldn't loosen it and ended up starting to round off the edges at which point I stopped. The little f***er was murder tight even though the other one opened easily.

Help please.

Good info. about the T6/D5 difference.

I've the same model/year as you, and this was my next job so thanks for the heads up.

I'm changing the fuel filter soon, so I'll take a look and see what is what on mine.

Looks like you're not the first to come across this problem!

Seems like there are 2 flange types, and we have the larger one requiring the prop shaft to be dropped to remove the haldex motor.

If I have, then it will just be a filter and oil change (if I can get the cover off!).

Useful link thanks.
Gives me more confidence to drop the prop. You'll not be able to do an oil change without removing the pump, I think (not 100% on that), as this is the drain point. Also doubtful if you'll get enough access to get the filter cover off. It's really really awkward.
I'm going to go at this again ASAP as i understood removing the flange was a fu***r of a job. Tightening the nut is probably the only tricky bit but the impact gun will deal with it i think.
Make sure you mark the flange and prop joint location as they're dynamically balanced and you need to assemble exactly as you split them. A Sharpie should do.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping that just loosening the pump and pulling out slightly would drop the oil.

Dropping the prop is a right pain! I though it was only the older Haldex systems that required this.

It probably will do the oil but no point if you can't change the filter. Your call. Dropping the prop is indeed a major PITA.

I'll try and loosen the filter bolts this weekend first and take it from there.

Thanks for the pointers

And don't forget the electrical plugs on the control module are tricky to release especially if lying on your back! They're quite brittle too so go easy.

Had a look today. Yep, I have the larger flange too, so my haldex pump wont be going anywhere soon!

Found an oil leak too. The good news keeps on coming!!
