Default V70 coil packs

I've just literally got myself my first ever Volvo its an early V70 2.4 - a 1999 model, anyway, I only got it on Wednesday, but yesterday morning the engine management light came on, I've had it diagnosed at my regular/local garage (for free) came up coilpack / plug, cylinder 2, + saying immobiliser- key fob locks and unlocks the car, and it starts, so surely the immobiliser must be fine ? they re-set it, said see how it goes, the car drives normally, no pulling issues or anything like that ! anyhow, all day yesterday it was fine, and this morning the engine management light is on again !
Now, I can replace said coilpack and plug myself no problem, but will the engine management light go out ? or does that have be re-set as well by a diagnostic machine ?

For the ignition coils (or spark plugs) you can easily see if one is bad https://youtu.be/nDwtZCWU7u8

Congrats on the new car. I assume it's the new shape v70 like this:

If so the light will probably go out once the issue is resolved, but it might take a little while.

Also I would try swapping the coil to another cylinder and see if the problem follows the coil.
Don't buy a cheapo coil either as they can cause issues and not last very long.
See these videos for more info about coils:

The guy who makes them is also a forum member

If you are going to keep the car for a while and do your own serving I would strongly recommend buying Volvo VIDA, available from ebay/amazon or sellers on this forum.
It allows you to scan for fault codes at the dealer level and is just an amazing tool to have.

I would also recommend buying some OEM spark plugs as they are cheap and can solve and prevent issues.

Re the immobiliser check you haven't got any RFID tags on your key rings.

Thanks Blue - only just getting the chance to check these videos, very helpful, I am thinking my problem most likely be the coilpack, as according to all the s/h and paperwork for the car, plugs were changed in July last year.
I shall check everything today.
Oh, it is the earlier model I have, not the one like youve attached

So you have a more "flat sided" V70.
Is your car turbocharged or not?
Is it manual or automatic?
How many miles on it?

Do you do any mechanical work yourself?
