Default Fuel problems

I've got a S60 D5 the other day it ran out of fuel but the gauge was showing quarter full has anybody had the same problem?

Yes but my V70 D5 stopped dead when the tank was still 70% full . First check when was the fuel filter last changed , if it needs doing you can replace it in 20 minutes yourself but I doubt this is the cause of your problem . When you refilled the car did it start ok and run and is it cutting out again at the same point ? The fuel tank is in two halves and there is a syphon pipe through which the in tank electric fuel pump sucks fuel from the other half of the tank , this can get kinked , blocked or as in my case it was broken off by a heavy handed mechanic but if this was the case would be surprised to see that you could get so much fuel out of the tank before the engine stops . There is a lesser possibility that your sender unit is faulty or getting stuck at that particular position inside the tank . You need to take the rear seats and sound proofing out to get at the fuel tank , there are some good photos on the forum showing how to do this repair .
