Roy, interior door handles are somewhat unique to ES, only the very last 1972 1800E cars with the ES interior (high back seats, folding rear seat and steel ES wheels etc) have the same handles, all other E's have a different set up.

A friend of mine is restoring an ES and has a scrap donor car, I'll check with him to ask if he has a surplus handle you could have.

Thanks for that. My car was registered December 1973. I am replacing the quarter light so had to remove the door panel which in turn meant I needed to remove the handle, basically a lever and discovered one prong missing. That explained why the driver's side was so much looser than the passenger side. I wonder what else he might have available? Where does he live? Could be good to compare cars.
