Default V70 CIM issue central locking

Hi all, I have an 02 V70 that has developed a fault with the central locking.
When I use the key fob to open the doors it continues to click open and closed. It started by rectifying itself after a few minutes but now it continues until the battery runs down. My garage tried disabling the central locking suggesting I use the key, but the CIM unit still kicks in, running the battery down, even tho it’s not connected to the locks any more. Apparently I need a new CIM unit that can only be done by a main dealer, this is going to cost me around £900 all in.
Apparently I can’t get one from a breakers and reprogram it... Can anyone suggest a cheaper fix that’ll keep the car secure?
Thanks in advance.
Alan

It is just possible that the fob button is sticking and "cycling" the unlock state, and if you are close by will continue to cycle the lock - you could try removing the battery from the fob after unlocking to rule out a fob related issue.

Do you have a second fob to try?

If it is fob related you could try cleaning the offending fob with isopropyl alcohol aka switch cleaner; it sorts out a lot of fob related problems.

You might consider replacing the Central Locking Control Unit - it's located under the offside lower dash and slides off a black powder coated locating bracket- probably a black or just possibly a green plastic unit (both have two multi plug connectors) in your V70 - the bad news is that the unit is coded to your key fobs - so you'll be looking for a unit with key fobs - try Minty on the forum - NB the fobs are factory coded to the unit but the unit is a direct swap and won't need to be re-coded to your car - check the part number on yours before sourcing a replacement as there are two different types fitted depending upon year/model/spec & etc..

Hi "Cheshired5" - I'm sure the poster means the Volvo CEM- CIM is a Vauxhall/General Motors as well as Saab abbreviation for the module that controls the electronics inside the car/dashboard/locking etc. apparently it is usually located in or near the steering column - I assume it equates to the Volvo CEM - as usual, I defer to your wider knowledge on these matters

My thought is that based on the symptoms and the year of the car, a DIM fault is more likely and although it's "just" the instrument cluster, its influence on seemingly unrelated functions is quite broad.

Given the cost of guessing either a CEM or DIM or other module fault, hooking up with Vida would shed much more light on the situation.

Thanks "Cheshired5" - Absolutely agree - Vida solves most of these issues.
