Long cranking time
Hi all, V70 135k D5.
More so when cold or left for a long time.It seems to take 5-6 cranks to fire up. Some cars start on 1. I have checked a few things. Leak back OK New battery No codes on Vida (exp alarm and AQS) Anything else to check? |

Monitor the fuel rail pressure to see if that's the problem.
If the pressure drops too much while standby then it needs more cranking to get to operating pressure.

Check the engine earth strap just below starter motor. These fail a couple of cm into the sheath at the starter motor end. Mine was always lazy to start until I replaced it with a heavy duty strap.

Thanks for the advice, will check strap in the morning.
Also hook it up on vida and get a graph of rail pressure and cranking speed. Believe i need around 250 rpm cranking speed. Anyone know the rail pressures? assuming my rail sensor is in working order. Was going to check this too, measure the voltages. 0.5v at ign, 1.5v at cranking then 1.2v running. Is this correct? |

Most of them do take a few turns to fire.
Mine is worse when hot, cold it fires ok. |
