Default 1995 460 Dashboard Illumination

Hi

Recently purchased a nice 460 Auto with 60,000 miles. In very good condition. However, the dash illumisation is poor, even with the dimmer up high. For exapmle, the headlight switch and three auxilary switches do not illuminate. Is this normal before I try and replace the bulbs? Also is it easy to replace the bulbs in the dash? THe instrumants are all ok though. Any advice would be great!!

Welcome Jason,

I've just bought a 460 auto too - mine's a 1.7 turbo - what's yours?

It's my 6th Volvo though :-)

My dash lights are nice and bright but it had a new speedo 4,000 miles ago as the backing on the old one had started to crack and light was shining through.

Good luck with your problem - I presume you've found the dimmer switch (on mine it's hidden on the underside of the steering column cowl - where you might expect height/reach adjustment for the column to be).

Good luck with the car - I've had mine all of a week now and it just seems to get better everyday. It coped admirably with snow covered Pennine roads this morning and the heated seats are so good in this weather!

It has 1.8 on the boot, so I guess it's a 1.8? I finally discovered the dimmer switch, the I am sure some dash bulbs have gone. Does the headlight switch illuminate along with the fogs/heated backscreen?

Good question. I'll check on mine - though being a pre-facelift model it might not be the same.

Had a look at mine last night, sadly without camera. I can confirm that the following are illuminated:

1. Main instrument panel
2. Auxilary gauges in centre console
3. Heater controls
4. Light switch and demister/fog light switches

If I get chance I'll take a pic over the weekend

THanks for that, it is very much appreciated. I am tempted to replace all the dash lights with LED one's!
