Default 760 V6 to B230FK

Hi all

So I've sold a 1989 760 GLE with 233k miles and blown headgaskets to a customer. They have asked me to convert it to a B230FK and an M90 gearbox... so it begins.

I just so happened to have an M90L conversion kit in my garage from a 1995 940 I found in a scrapyard.

Customer has bought a B230FK that's done 130k miles which is being pallet delivered to mine in the next couple of weeks.

He has ordered an LH2.4 dogdish flywheel that has been resurfaced already.

New SKF clutch release bearing and flywheel bolts arrived this morning (thanks Dai).

I've got a crossmember with engine mounts to fit so hopefully it won't take too long.

First things first though is to finish stripping the 940 breaker down to get the shell scrapped and out of my way.

Don't forget the loom from the 940 (LH2.4) Luke as you'll probably have to do some swapping around for the B230 as i'm fairly sure the pinouts are a little different. I'll try and check for you some time tomorrow.

There may also be a hiccup with the idle speed after a run, the 760 uses a 96 tooth reluctor ring in the back axle and front hubs for the ABS and speedo drive. Non-ABS models only have a 12 tooth reluctor ring in the back axle.

The 940 uses 48 tooth rings with no speed divider for the speedo. The 760 has a divide by 8 counter to drive the speedo that would normally expect 12 pulses if it's a non-ABS model. In non-ABS models, there is no divide by 8 counter aka speed converter.

The 940 ECU uses a speed input to help with engine braking etc and idle speed on overrun etc so it may get confused!

Don't worry Dave I've thought of that already.

I've got 3 940 axles, 2 lh2.4 wiring looms and the engine is coming with another one and the ECU's. I have an early and late set of gauges from a 940 and the complete ABS etup with 3 lots of 940 struts so I will probably be swapping the lot over.

I'll have to whatsapp you about it later on when I get to it.

At some point it has had a dark grey 960 tailgate fitted and Auriga alloys but still has the original 15" wheel in the boot.

Looks nice Luke. Will be soooo much better with a proper engine in it as well :

It would be an absolute waste to break it, glad I found a good home for it!

You will be creating a lot of work doing a loom swap. Dash connectins, window motors etc all changed.

By far the best bet is just use what you need for the turbo engine

That's the plan, I will have to pull the dash out to feed the LH2.4 loom in behind the dash.

The abs swap and axle swap will be to get the speedo working and the idle control valve as it wants to see the car stationary to set the idle and gets this feed from the diff speed sensor I believe.
