Youre lucky it snapped on startup and not driving and it just split in half with some grip left
Even if it slipped a tooth it could be fine, you could try to rotate the crank pulley back gently while locking the campulley in the correct place. if there is resistance stop If thats possible and than replace the belts correctly according to that video and see what happens at startup. If there is damage you will notice Last edited by 5cilinder; Feb 16th, 2017 at 12:25. |

It's slipped at least 45° which is several teeth.

2 teeth below is one tooth on top .2 revolutions on the crank is only one on the cam
I admitt its worrying , but there is nothing to lose to line it up correctly Dont know the amount of teeth tollerance before damage occures . you? Last edited by 5cilinder; Feb 16th, 2017 at 13:41. |

I don't know the tolerance and I doubt that anyone does definitively as the outcomes you read are variable from little to no damage to replacement engine. One of my YouTube viewers had the timing tensioner go. He described how it produced nasty metallic sounds but suffered no piston or valve damage. A new camshaft, a couple of rockers and a few other bits and pieces were the fix. True there's no loss in lining things up and trying but I think the OP should also be looking at why the AC belt let go in the first place..... seized compressor pulley possibly.

Thats also a worry , why the auxillary belt went.
Its huge downside on this engine that a auxillary belt almost always result in a snapped cambelt |

The AC belt was the cause.

Not on the OP's version of the D5 which has 3 belts, timing, auxiliary and AC.

Hi,
Don't suppose you managed to have a look on VIDA regarding the crank and camshaft orientation did you ? Thanks
