Thumbs up C70 Roof Repair

Just suffered catastrophic failure of a hydraulic cylinder. I know Caymen have a good reputation but if you're on the north side of London, a bit far to travel. I used a local business called Ace Servicing and Repairs, Eastman Way, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 7DU. Highly recommend this business for C70 MkII roof repairs if you're northern home counties or a bit further north.

Good to know as another local owner. My last C70 needed a hydraulic ram and I had to bite the bullet on a £500+ part from Volvo. The labour involved was only about 30mins though.

Did it leak fluid inside the roof and damage the headlining at all?

No, I caught it before it got that far. The rod coming out of the cylinder had a thin coating of oil and a drip would slowly form at the cylinder entry. It looked like there had been some drops onto the plastic back of the folding part of the headlining on that side, but they'd dried up before they could find their way down onto the edge of the material. I never found any evidence of drops down the interior panels or in the boot, from opening the roof. I check every couple of months now!

No, it was the loop at the end of the arm that shattered as the bush wasn't present so it had been rubbing metal to metal.

The part my car required was the offside hydraulic cylinder between the mid & front sections. Volvo wanted £1094.00, I used a breaker and paid £170.00 for what looked like a brand new part.
