info screen gone blank
I wonder if anyone can suggest a solution to this problem? It's on a 59 plate V70 D5 car and the info screen has gone blank. The radio came on for a few seconds whilst I sat waiting for someone then all went off. No heating info, parking sensors not working, nothing apart from the logo screen about High Performance Sound (or whatever) when I press the on/off button to on. No phone or sat nav fitted on the system. The screen seems to light up but remains blank. I've started and stopped a few times in fairly quick succession but no change.
A new battery was fitted a couple of weeks ago if that is relevant. Can anyone suggest a quick fix or is it a trip to a Volvo specialist? I'm away from home at present so will have to drive 200 miles home on Sunday without the info re. heating etc. Not terrible I know but annoying! Any thoughts or tips gratefully received. Thanks in advance Rick |

Update
Just an update on this situation. When I started the car the next morning everything was back to normal and has remained so all of Saturday and Sunday. So the cause remains a puzzle.
I think I shall take the car to an indi specialist I know in Nottingham and talk to them about it. If they have any pearls of wisdom i'll post them here. Thanks for looking Rick |

Have a read of posts from 'mikeow': https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=226362
I read his extensive list of fault codes with VIDA & in the end he sold the car as it was proving problematic. Interesting, his problems occurred after a battery change too....

2014 V70 Infotainment Control Module
Our screen went blank a week on Saturday. After talking to an electrical specialist, I took it to our local dealership.
After connecting up to the diagnostics machine, I was told that it was confirmed as an internal fault within the ICM. It requires a new module. £986 please! No offer of any help from dealership. Not impressed as the car is less than four years old and only just done 50,000 miles. After reading some other threads, I had noticed a low charge warning. I'm talking to Which legal team later today. |

Worth investigating the ICM repair option in the post I linked (<£200).

The garage is just doing their job. They don't repair faulty modules, they replace them with new units that come with a guarantee. These days, electronic modules are highly complex and can only be repaired by electronic experts, or the manufacturer. Anything in a car can and will fail. The garage can fix the fault by fitting a replacement module, and programming it to your car. The vehicle leaves the workshop fully functional. As for the cost of the replacement module, well, that's just a fact of life for modern complex vehicle with lots of electronics. You can try 2nd hand - BUT 2nd hand modules are programmed for the vehicle they came from, and not for your vehicle. Sometimes a module has to be "re-virginised" to delete the loaded programming, so it can be programmed to your vehicle. And then the 2nd hand module has an unclear history and an unclear future, and mostly with very short guaranty. So don't blame the dealer when they same: "to fix the problem we fit a replacement module costing xx GBP" That's just them doing their job.

Simon, thanks for responding. I’ve read the posts and I suppose it’s some small comfort that other people have had the same problem. My battery was fitted by a garage (another story) so I don’t know if the correct procedure was followed when disconnecting. Do you think there is any mileage in disconnecting the battery again following the correct procedure? Or is it best left alone given that the system is working still? Any thoughts gratefully received.
If the problem recurs I’ll take it to a volvo specialist and report back if I find anything useful out. It will be interesting to hear how Alan gets on? Thanks again Rick |

There's no harm is disconnecting the battery for say 20 minutes and reconnecting. It's also worthwhile getting the codes read and cleared with VIDA. It's not unheard of for clearing out the codes to make other faults go away.

Did you get it fixed? We've had this happen after coming back from holiday. The screen etc has worked once between about 10 journeys.

Because things the that shouldn't fail after 4 years and the law backs you up on that.
