Power system service urgent

I have had the power system service urgent light come on intwemittently for months now on pretty much every journey I go on

Most advice is that this is an alternator issue which i have assumed is the case. A common test of this is the battery test whwre you start the car dosconnect the negative better cables and if the car stops it is a battery issue. The car did not stall or switch off and after a while the power system servoce light came on again.

Usually i would assume it was the battery but as the light came on again could it be the alternator still as the light usually comes on when the battery is discharging?

Any thoughts?

WHat year is your car. I think you might have posted in the wrong section. This is the 1996-2004 S40 and V40 subforum
