Default PPC v DiCE

Ok guys I have been talking to a few of you on here and im well impressed on the advive and help that you have given me. .

Now I have been talking to my mate at the Garage and he is very keen to help me out and as I have found out the SNAP-ON tool wont work on the volvo

So he is thinking about getting a Volvo tool so whats the one to go for these PPC's or the DiCE. .

Any one point us in the right direction does he want 1 or both
Am I correct in saying

1 the PPC code reader does it all but only resets faults ( comes ready to use)

2 the DiCE is same as above but has a few more options
( needs a laptop + software BUT WHAT software will 2011 work on 2000 to 2011 cars ? )

All replys help full

Like you say PPC will read and erase codes but that's it.

A laptop or PC running Vida with a DiCE will read and erase codes but also from the codes, the software gives you more actual diagnostics (details of what to check, what to fix, diagrams, etc) plus you can alter various settings (heated seat temperatures, fuel flap locking times, turn DRL's off on pre-facelift P2's, etc).

PPC's these days are like hen's teeth and when they do come up for sale prices are premium level. DiCE clones plus Vida are easier and cheaper to come by if you look in the right places.

BUT and it's a biggy:

i) Is the PPC "licensed" for commercial use?

AND

ii) Most DiCe units available and used by private individuals are clones and the Vida software is "unofficial". The consequences on running such for commercial use are questionable, even more so than those private members who have them or the older VCT/Vadis/Vida combo.
Unless of course he is going to buy a genuine unit from Volvo.

If you dont mind the laptop aspect of it then go for the Dice, you can do so so much more. Basically everything the dealer can do (change seat settings, lock times, light times etc) except the you cant add software to your car.

When it comes to faults the dice will tell you where the fault is, how long its been there, what is possibly causing it and then possible ways to remedy the fault. The PPC only tells you what the fault is.

The Dice units sold on a certain auction site come with 2011a software which will do all cars from 2000 upto and including 2011 cars.

Hope this helps

Need any more info let me know

Right so I now know that the DiCE is the one he wants he already has a PC but the DiCE units like you say are £150 on E Bay but now comes the Software Issue

Whats the one to go for Im guessing the orignal Volvo is Thounds of pounds like his SNAP-ON up grades . .

So a 3rd party one might be his best bet. . so can any of you point me in the right direction as to the ONE to get

Most ebay sourced DiCE units come with software 'in the price?'

Try to get one with the latest version of software, although its usually one or two versions behind that supplied officially.

ViDE (the software) is quite fussy about system requirements for the PC its running on, I've found it more so for later operating systems like Windows 7. The only way I could get it to run was on a Professional version of 7 running Virtual PC in XP mode.

Go to the UK autoobd2 site and see if that suits your requirements.

Almost all of the cloned DiCE unts are now coming with Vida 2011a or better.

Read here for Vida requirements http://vccs.volvocars.se/wsguide/upl...es_105EN11.pdf
