Default Fuel smell

I keep getting a smell of fuel, smells to me like unburnet neat petrol not fumes. Ive checked the all seals and lines and there doesnt appear to be a leak, it only happens on startup, both cold and hot. but doesnt seem to happen in traffic or sitting. Any idea's?

Default fuel smell

Do any of the injectors need a new set of top O rings or the L shaped pipe connecting between the fuel rail and the pressure regulator? Mine quit in Sainsbury petrol station, that was fun caused a few problems.

The pipe isn't expensive

Is the fuel smell only under bonnet or near rear of car?

The fuel tank will have a vent to air pipe so occasional fuel smell is normal.

sorry for the late replys, the smell is all at the front, not near the back at all. im going to check the injector seals tomorrow ( if its dry ), would a loose joint between the mainfold and cat pipe also cause a smell? it sounds a bit rattley when i shake it

Hi,

probably wouldn't cause a petrol smell there - at least not unless the mixture is fairly rich and some unburnt fuel is making it out of the cylinder. Also not sure this would tie in with cold and hot starts, I'd expect the gap might seal once hot and either way only cold starts are likely to run rich.

That's my thinking :-) HTH, Pete
