On a normal V70 auto, you put it in neutral then simply tug it upwards hard (and try not bang your head or hand on the ceiling).

i read that there are four tabs underneath that need a special tool to close them so you can remove it, apparently a couple of pieces of copper pipe will do. I'd love someone to show me how though because I need to remove mine as well to replace the gaitor.

You're going to need a knob puller

...or fashion a tool to resemble Volvo type.

Is that v70R knob different from the standard V70?

Looks like that special tool is available from Volvo and Pelican, and is not too expensive.

Thanks chaps responses much appreciated

Sorry for not making clear she is a mans car - manual

I had a brief look today whilst fitting a Yatour and it struck me the shift emblem pays some part in retaining the leather which wraps underneath it

If it transpires the tool from Pelican is the only way forward I shall buy if there are comrades happy to pay eg £20 to borrow it !

And if anybody can suggest why I now have drivers door speaker interfearance only when using Bluetooth a successful resolution will provide a significant discount !

Baffled any idea how the tool works ?

I am led to believe Steve that a genuine R knob is larger but could not attest to the truth of the suggestion

There are some very old threads on volvospeed and t5d5 that mention ways to remove them. From what they say, you remove the boot (lift centre console, then push in the 8 clips holding the plastic base of the gaitor to the console). Once the boot is removed from the base of the console you can slide two halves of a copper pipe (similar diameter to the shifter) up into the base of the gearknob then knock it off the shaft using a hammer.
