C70: [Guide] How to remove rear seats

I struggled to find good information regarding how to remove the rear seats in a MK1 C70 Coupé, I needed to do this in order to change one of the rear speakers which was cracking when music was playing. It was a bit daunting when I found out the seats needed to come out but it's not actually that complicated.

Tools required:

• 12mm socket

Steps:

1. Put your hands down one side edge of the rear seat and sharply pull up towards you (the side edges of the seat, not the front of it), repeat this for the other side - the bottom part of the seats should now be loose
2. Pull up the centre of the bottom part of the seats then pull towards you, the entire thing should come out
3. At the bottom corners of the remaining top part of the seats you should see a 12mm bolt for each side, undo this
4. Pull each side of the top part of the seats towards you and up abit, this should free it from the central arm rest and appear to be hinged on the headrests which remain in place
5. Undo the headrest clips by getting your hands behind the top part of the seats (either through the centre gap or sides), pull the white clips towards you to free the headrest then with a sharp pull up the headrest should come out
6. With the headrests out the top part of the seats should now easily remove
   
7. If you need to get access to the speakers (like I did) the parcel shelf comes out by popping out the 4 push pins (by the headrests) and then popping it out at the sides and sliding it towards you
   
8. When re-installing make sure you route the seatbelts correctly and round the top part of the seats as you're doing it (if you're carrying this out you'll understand what I mean)

Also exactly the same for the Convertible. Seats also need to come out before the rear interior trim panels can be removed.

Haha wow, I guess that involves cutting an enormous hole into the back of the seats?

No, they are the standard convertible subs on the GT spec cars. The seat back fits in front as standard without modification.

Oh I see, you don't have them in the parcelshelf. I wonder how that affects the sound then, doesn't come through as clearly as in the coupe surely?

No idea if the sound quality is compromised as never been in a coupe. It must be different to some extent as the acoustics in a hardtop enclosed area will be different to a soft top - open or closed.

The convertible doesn't have a parcel shelf - the hood stows there - so Volvo did not have that option, hence behind the seat. The sound is still concert hall quality though.
