v70 xc70 + 90 trans code 002f
i also have had issues with my transmission control module communications and have suffered the dreaded torque converter lockup fail accompanied by fault code 002f, spoke to volvo and may as well have talked to the wall.
however, whilst at a local garage having tyres fitted i was chatting to a guy who turned out to be a specialist volvo uk tech, mentioned my problems to him and he advised me what the underlying problem is. so. [now ive got your attention,,, there is a section of wiring harness from tcm which runs accross the front of the engine block, due to its location it suffers heat damage, inside this part of loom there is a joint in several earth wires where they bridge together, because of the repeated heating and cooling the solder on these joints becomes brittle and breaks, here lies your problem, in this situation identify the broken joints and remove all solder, bare 10mm of wire and rejoin with a mini block connector, then light a candle and drip wax into and metal or exposed wire at each end of the connector and also onto the screws, then wrap in insulating tape once cooled ensuring theres plenty on and pop back into sleave and securing bracket. now i have thought about other quicker ways of doing this but due to the nature of this harness and its location this really is the only obviously long term fix. you could use crimps but they will soon become soft and dissconnect, could solder it but again this will become brittle and drop off, a thumbs up would be fantastic if this post helps you!!!!!!!!!! |

I find it amazing that you've posted this reply yesterday since this is an old post and I had my errors read today. I've had the exact same problem as the thread creator. I'm afraid no mechanic will take my word for it when I ask them to check the solders to deal with this issue so I will try to have a look myself. You didn't mention whether or not this solved the issue for yourself?
I've actually learned to not get this part: "Once you get the error while driving on motorway it goes in limp mode. When you slow down you feel a soft clonk and then it gets stuck in 4th gear.". Before going into soft mode and getting a "-" instead of a letter "D" on my dashboard my Volvo S80 (2002 2.4 D5) vibrates quite a bit if at around 70 Km/h I just hold the gas steady as it accelerates towards 100 Km/h (starts vibrating at around 100 Km/h). If I let off the gas quickly enough (just lift my foot a little so the rpm drops slightly) the car stops vibrating and I can continue accelerating normally after that. Replace part #(30651152) Gearbox wiring harness
@Freebellion, @Autoemotion
I also have this same problem. I truly believe this problem is electrical in nature and is related to damaged temperature sensor inside the transmission. This is the only thing I am willing to replace in my 2003-S60-AWD. (Of course, I will do transmission fluid change gradually too.) This is the part: https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/p...BoCHaAQAvD_BwE This video talks about a related issue with Land Rover, but I also think it is related to the dreaded Volvo problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjFd1N5DR84 Anyone let me know if you tried it, and how it went. I am currently making an appointment for this |

Hi and good luck with this.
In my case when this identical sympton occurred, it was accompanied with a definitely loss if coolant. If your is NOT losing coolant then this electrical issue could well be your problem. However note mine only lost coolant on long journeys. Mine now appears fixed. John l B |

After a Volvo Vida dice test drive -- I can see that the current in S2 is abnormal. I will for sure be replacing the solenoids and the wiring harness. I will update later.

Autoemotion left the impression that this is something that can be attempted without going to the mechanic, the Rover one looks quite a bit more complex. I don't even know which one is the harness/wire on my Volvo.

by the looks of it you still didnt renew ALL of the fluid yet no?
You can do it on the driveway with a length of hose, some electrical tape and a container to flush it into

Hi guys,
Just had a replacement box fitted to my wife's '05 XC70 after the original mashed up. Shem fitted the box but unfortunately 002f has raised its ugly head 😡 Apart replacing or stripping the box we are stuck as we've run out of funds 😔 Whilst driving 40+ miles back from Shems last night I tried the cruise control method and it didn't miss a beat. It sat quite happily at circa 90mph with no issues but once I took over when back on A roads it went back into limp mode between 50 & 60 😔 We are now very close to trying to recoup what we've spent on it over the last month and cut our losses 😔 But before we do, I was reading an interested bit of info above about the wiring harness; has anyone actually proven this? Thanks all. Woody.

dont worry about it - do a full flush and see if it comes back. Mines be perfect since I had the code + did a 15litre flush. Cant tell you when but at least 30-40 days with no error coming back

Hi mate. It had new fluid when Shem fitted it. Oh well, looks like it’s going to be broken as we’ve had to get another car as my wife needs a reliable car. We’ve got an R-Design V5 D5 (Manual 😉👍 coming. Shame as a nice car but we can’t afford any more bills on it 😞. The box has a 12 month warranty so we are going to take it back to them and see what they can do for us.
