Water drips from interior light?

As anyone else noticed water dips from their interior light console after being parked up? Mine's a 2008 V70 and doesn't have a sunroof. It was parked nose down on a sloping drive, I noticed the gearshift gaitor was wet then the droplets coming from the lights above?

I don't know about that but I can tell you that our v70 just 8 weeks ago developed a leak at the top of the windshield. In our case the water made its way down the inside face of the glass right down the middle. Could it be that the same thing is happening but that the water is finding a different route downwards? Apparently leaking of these windshields is a common occurrence due to design.

Yes. I have the same problem and it cant be the windscreen as the water enters above that (from the lights). Haven't looked into it yet as it seems to be occasional and depends on wind and light rain, heavy rain doesn't seem to cause a problem. I suspect an issue with the shark fin ariel on the back or roof rail fixing points can't see any other way water would get in. Rear washers don't work but haven't tried using them for a long time so it probably wouldn't be a loose washer pipe inside the head lining.

I wondered about the shark fin too, I will remove the light fitting and look for traces of water. I've also read about issues with the windscreen seal through, once the light is removed it may be possible to see if its the screen or not - where's the watering can ?

Opened the car up tonight and noticed a damp smell, the drivers side carpet and mat are also wet.

This reads to me as if you have a leak coming from the top windscreen. The water could have collected in the light cluster but you only noticed it when you parked on an incline. The damp carpet could be saturated underneath due to the sponge material that holds plenty of water. If you stand outside the car with the door open and push the top of the screen from the inside with one hand you will probably observe movement, check both sides of the screen. I would remove the carpet trims and lift the carpet asap and dry out. I had the same problem with my car and was amazed at how much water had accumulated under the carpet.

Looks like I have a similar problem - "an occasional leak" that runs down the inside of the LHS of the windscreen. Only noticed it a few days ago and thought it was the windscreen leaking at the top so stuck some duck tape along the join between the windscreen and the roof. It hasn't rained much since but I took the car to National Windscreens to get a quote for a new windscreen and the bloke there said it probably wasn't the windscreen as the bonding on Volvos is very good. I told him the car is normally parked on my drive which slopes down (car facing down the slope). He examined the windscreen where it joins the roof and said he very much doubted the windscreen was leaking as the bonding looked very good and the windscreen looked original. He didn't have time to test for leaks himself but said I should check further back at the roof rails, aerial or rear door hinges to see if the leak was coming from there and running down inside the headlining.

I have just spent an hour with the garden hose pouring water over the car roof working my way back up the roof to the tailgate and no leaks - not a drop of water in the car. Being here in sunny Scotland we are not due to get any rain until the weekend so I will have to wait and see what happens then. In the meantime if anyone has any bright ideas on what else I can check please let me know.

PS. It hasn't been leaking enough to soak the carpets or anything but I did put a towel on the dash when I first noticed it and it was wet the next day after a night of rain.

PPS. There is no movement on the corner of the windscreen when you try and push it up from the inside.

Pretty sure that is your windscreen, Grant. Exactly the same thing happened to me. Interestingly, MY local glass guy said he has seen a bunch of volvo's of the same vintage with the same issue. Go figure.

Sounds like windscreen .................... the easy way is to tap either the top or bottom of the screen with a centre punch which will produce a huge 'stone' damage star crack ........... then replace it under you screen insurance ! ......

Mine has been replaced, but that was due to a genuine stone hitting the top near the rain sensor, giving me a crack that was almost 30cm long ! .......

Actually I just remembered something - when I brought the car to the glass shop they were able to confirm the leaky windscreen by simply pushing upwards on the glass from inside the car. The sealing failure was quite visible from outside the car as this was done.
