My thoughts and opinion, for what it's worth.
Nobody actually knows what will happen when (or even if) we leave the EU as at this moment nobody can agree on how (or when) we will actually leave. The potential for travel chaos is certainly there and taking a few precautions may be appropriate, such as checking your licence, insurance and passport. The severity of the problem is also dependent on when you plan to travel, if you've got a holiday or family visit booked in April or May then start planning now and try to cover the possible issues, if you've not got anything booked or it's not until Christmas you might as well wait and see what kind of mess our leaders make of it. At work we are promised a new computer system for the end of February, except it's already pushed back to March/April and a lot of canteen rumours are flying around about the effect it will have, having been in the game for too many years I'm afraid I'm in the 'wait and see' camp. As someone once said, 'Worrying about something that hasn't happened yet is like paying the interest on a loan you haven't taken out yet'.

A small price to pay for independence.
But wait!!! I've just ordered a new XC40 for delivery in May. I wonder if the debt collectors will be after me for the tariff? OMG, the world is coming to an end. How will we ever survive without the EU? |

But wait !!!! If you hadn't paid what was due at collection why would Volvo release the car for some debt collector to come chasing you later? Is VolvocarsUK now operating as a charity on a, you've ordered one of our cars so you must be a good sort, basis?

If Volvo try to gouge me for a tariff I am free to walk away from the deal and look for a car without any additional tariff. They did not ask me for a deposit when I ordered the car, so I'm a free agent if they try to play funny buggers on the price. As this is the 3rd car I've ordered from this dealer I do expect they consider me "A Good Sort". |

That's one way to look at it. I wouldn't consider it VolvoCarsUK gouging me as much as them passing on additional, unforseen, costs. These things happen.
As a customer you're free to take your business wherever you please. If VolvoCarsUK are being hit with this extra charge then all the others will too unless you really are being seen as a soft touch to boost local profits. None of this has anything to do with driving in Europe after March though.

Indeed it does not have anything to do with driving in Europe after March.
Untill we are after March all is speculation. My advise for what it's worth is to conform to current criteria and be prepared to aquire extras as their needs become known. No point stressing over things we cannot change, far better being adaptable. Paul. |
