XC60 Water Leak in Footwell

Hi everyone. Hoping you guys might be able to help . Passenger side front and rear footwells are soaked. Not entirely convinced that rainwater is getting into the car but I think I've ruled out the AC evaporator drain being blocked as I ran the AC last night and water seemed to run freely from the bottom of the car. The weird thing is that the footwells will be dry for a long time and then get a decent soaking. Once my wife said that she turned a corner and water seemed to gush out of the glove box Is there somewhere behind the dash where water might collect and then slosh around?

You've not mentioned your vehicle model year, which could be relevant as earlier P2 platform models did have an issue with windscreen bonding which caused water ingress. It's not such a widespread issue on later P3 models, although a Volvo technician tells me that he has seen it.

I've just had a problem on the passenger side with a screen wash pipe leaking and causing all manner of electrical gremlins. If the water smells like screenwash then you could be the second victim:- https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=289206

Thanks for the reply, it’s a 2008 model so very early. Could well be windscreen bonding. Bit perplexed that there’s so much water in the rear footwell though.

FYI, in some XC70 there was a roof antenna leaking, with water in rear footwells, but it often damaged the roofliner:

Had my 2008 model windscreen fixed last year FOC at my local Volvo dealer so may be worth checking before you spend your own cash, my carpets were wet front to back also, took ages to dry out !

Right. Ran water over the windscreen and eventually noticed a tiny trickle of water along the inside of the A-pillar! I immediately contacted Volvo UK and today they have offered to cover the cost of rebonding the windscreen. I’m a bit concerned about any damage the water might have caused the electrics, but hey we’ll see what the dealer says when they investigate. Can’t believe this hasn’t become a recall! Thanks for all the messages which have pointed me in the right direction.

you didnt have to water test it simple push test is ample for any one wanting to check if bonding insecure very very common fault ,well done finding this a very common fault

remove front seats then carpets to dry out completely,leave ignition off so srs wont come on when seat disconected if srs doees come simple erase required of codes

Best remove carpets and underlay as well to dry them.
Carpets and especially underlay / sound dampening material absorb a lot of water and the car will be moldy very quickly and hat interior metalwork corroding as well if you do not dry out the carpets and the underlay thoroughly, outside of the car.
