XC70 D5 Engine timing belt
I am having some issues with my XC70 2004 D5!
I was told the cam belt was gone, but I have inspected it and it turned out that a rib of the aux belt cam off wrapped itself around the crank pulley underneath the timing belt. I have removed this offending rib! And since the engine turned over by hand attempted to start her up. She wants to start, but like all good women the timing is out I think; so I assume the rib from the aux belt has caused a tooth skip (or 2), but how can I check if this is the case! I can see the cam timing marker, which is the easy part. But where is the crank shaft marker? On the main pulley there is 3 holes, unsure if these are anything but I can't see anything. I have not removed the aux or timing belt - wanted to check before I go a head and do this. I am at a point where I just need to get it running, without the need to spend any money (if I can help it) Not the best I know, but the aux belt is now down to 5 ribs, as I cleaned it up to remove what was left of the 6th. I have searched google, but nothing is telling me about a D5 engine and the markers Any help, advise would be appreciated. |

With the harmonic balancer still in place you'll need a mirror and torch to see it.

Stop cranking and lose the thing with the missing rib. Look at the trouble the last time someone took a rib to make something out of it The crank pulley mark is behind the aux belt pulley, obviously. I think it may just be visible as a line on the outside of the crank pulley and it lines up with the edge of the oil pump housing.
