Quick Coolant Top Up Question
Hi there,
Just looking to top up the coolant for the first time for my Xc70 D5 2005 as it is getting nearer the min mark. The colour currently in the expansion tank is a light pink / red. I have some of this left (link below) which is the same colour but wanted to check it will be ok to top up with: https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/V...0511&0&cc5_866 The link above I used with my VW and can't find anywhere online about Volvo's using pink coolant also.. Would adding a little distilled water be better to top up with? Thanks for any help on this. |

I always used volvo coolant when I had volvos. It was a greenish colour and not overly expensive from the dealer.
I use g13 in my vws.

The VW stuff you linked to and "Toyota/Asian pink" are the only pink ones I've seen.
While some formulae are compatible others are not. The gurus I trust have said G-05 (a gold colored coolant) is a good substitute for the dark blue coolant Volvo and Saab and others used. My '07 has pale green coolant and I have no idea if it's Volvo's changed formula or if my car is running an unknown mixture. I want to renew the coolant anyway. I have a sealed jug of old Volvo blue concentrate which I will install this Spring if Volvo says it's correct for my year. Use Volvo brand coolant in your vehicle. |

The pink stuff is OAT coolant and widely available. Why not just top up with some more OAT? If you want to swap to another brand then give it a good flush with water as I recall the different types do not mix well.
I really don't see why Volvo coolant is necessary. Keith |

Hi Keith, Thanks for your reply. I will top up with some more OAT coolant for now as you say. I'm pretty sure the coolant I have is OAT (the link I added above from ecp) I just want to check really as I thought it might be car specific the one I have. I will give it a proper flush in the coming months and put in some Volvo recommended coolant. Thanks |

I purchased the car with the pink coolant, so for now will top up with OAT ready mix which I believe I already have from ecp (linked above) But will be flushing in the coming months and putting in a Volvo recommended coolant which seems to be either blue / green. Thanks for your reply. |

If flushing in the near future, I'd simply top it up for now with distilled water. May be available at the pharmacies for very little.
The question would rather by, why is the coolant level getting lower ?
