No! I simply know how to drive it.

Dont think i am a complete dodderer.

20 years on Traffic driving T5's and similar or above mean i know how to and more importantly am used to, driving far faster than most ever will, but with it comes car sympathy and understanding.

I have no doubt that i could easily obtain a crap average mpg even with a 6 speed manual D5 if i drove it poorly or unsympathetically HOWEVER:-

Incompetence, or lack of ability in terms of obtaining economy, on your part does not make me untruthful.

I was really asking what model it was because you haven't said. That will teach me to be more direct.

So what model is it?

Roy,
firstly may i appologise for being a complete A***.

It's a 2006 S60 D5 185 and in all honesty has been an absolute revelation in terms of power, driveability, economy and sheer enjoyment.

Again sorry and take care.

Kindest regards Darryl

Default Size of tyres informative for mpg reports

I think it would be informative to know what are the model and size of the tyres giving the stated mpg. I suspect that low rolling resistance tyres in size 195/65-15 give the best mpg, and the mpg decreases with progressivly wider and lower profile tyres.

Of lesser importance, but still relevant, would be the inflation pressure. Still lesser would be the number of miles on the tyres.

The majority of P2 V70s in the UK are fitted with 225/45/17 , this size is also very popular on BMW/Mercedes/Audi even on Ford Mondeos so whenever I go to the used tyre shop there are always lots of good ones to choose from . I would like to try narrower tyres to get some improvement in economy but would also need to change the rims to 16 inch to be able to get a 195 tyre and even then would be difficult to find a good supply , I wouldnt expect fitting 205 would give a measureable improvement over 225 ?

Exclamation 04 163bhp D5

When my 53 plate D5 S80 is running right it regularily returns 50-55 mpg. However, it is currently doing 45mpg because number 5 injector is faulty. Anyone got an injector they want to sell me?

Cool

I have the xc90 d5 185ps the most I`ve had out of it is 28.6mpg av it has the 18" alloys on, and that was after a long run down the motorway , but i did have the wife and 4 kids and luggage in it and the kids range from 3-17 so with two teenage daughters you can imagine how much luggage was in the car and it was just for the weekend.

Don't forget the Cd. and frontal area. Most important. Hence my interest in which car model, as Volvo fit the D5 in everything from the C30 to the XC90.

Thanks Darryl. No problem, easy to forget. The easiest thing is to put your car in your profile then anyone can check anytime. So many people don't though.
