Default Auto 'walk away' locking on P2 V70

Like a complete dipstick (before anyone tells me) my tools were pinched from my car again (4th time ;-( ) this weekend.

As my dearly beloved has decided I'm a complete plonka, it's been decided that I need to urgently install some form of automatic locking so that when I walk away from the car it automatically locks.

First, and fingers and legs firmly crossed, is it a feature already available - perhaps by software update? If not has anyone done it? If not does anyone know where to inject some form of signal or whatever? I happen to have an Arduino and a Raspberry Pi lying around ...

I thought NFC first, but it appears that only works for 100mm and I'm thinking a range of more like 2 metres is more usable.

Any comments welcome peeps - apart from the obvious!

That's possibly a timer. If you unlock the car with the remote but then do nothing else, it'll re-lock after a short while on the assumption that you didn't mean to unlock it.

As soon as you open a door, it'll then stay unlocked until commanded to lock again.

If you unlock & then don't open a door, it will re-lock after a 2 minute (?) delay.

The idea of retro fitting a self locking system is fine as long as you remember not to leave a passenger in the car otherwise they will be trapped in after the deadlocks kick in after 30 seconds. Even then, it will only work if you remember to take the key out of range of the car......

If I remember, mine locks the doors after a while if the key is left inside the car (me sitting inside with keys inside my pocket). I might be wrong, but there's a few options the dealer can program for you.

However, every time I open the door to get out of the car, I just stretch a finger and press down the 'door lock' button.

Yes I'd thought of that Simon. My ideal situation would be to use low powered Bluetooth and then pair three devices (our family).

If I understand correctly one can undo the doors from inside when they lock.

Thinking low powered Bluetooth so range is deliberately limited. I simply want it to lock when the paired phones are out of range and never to open when they are in 'range'. Thinking that through, one could almost depower the Bluetooth once the car had locked.

If the doors deadlock (30s after locking) the interior handles won't open the doors.

Oh. Thanks.

Right. The logic. Effectively an inverted AND gate. If >1 phone paired, all have to unpair for car to lock otherwise stays unlocked. Seems fine.

Question is, How?

A Post-It note on the steering wheel saying, "Lock the f***ing car" would be cheaper and easier.

Can't be denied, but the subtly is lost on most.

It is also fundamentally flawed unfortunately because as a bloke I'd never manage to read AND move at the same time...
