Was the car battery disconnected for some reason?

No, the battery has not been off for some time. Having driven around a few times now I can report that the behaviour has become quite erratic. Sometimes it appears normal, with the fan running slow but then the fan ramps up and the aircon is on and it goes to recirc so the air is freezing. Pretty sure it must be the thermistor, just need the time to get the ecc unit out!

Don't want to panic you, but I recently experienced this issue wirh a Volvo and it was the cylinder head gasket which had blown. The car ran fine for weeks. I tried flushing the radiator and yet, still the matrix made these weird burping, air type noises, usually when accelerating. Wasn't until another 80 miles or so later that the mayo chocolate effect appeared under the oil cap.

Latest update. I've had the climate control module out and found the cabin sensor fan clogged and not spinning. Did a good clean up, checked the thermistor for damage and it looks OK (if you need to replace one of these you will need a needle point soldering iron).

Reassembled and checked the fan, spins great. Out for a drive and the climate system is working good again in terms of blower fan control (this was a problem I didn't know I had until I started this exercise). BUT, switch to full heat and it still only gives luke warm (off cold) heat (blower fan revs up) even with aircon switched off its not good.

So, is it back to looking for an airlock or a blocked heater matrix (Assuming the flushing process has dislodged some crud) or do a Basil Fawlty (for those of a certain age group).

Interesting though!

Why?

If it just needs a calibration and a calibration hasn't been done, no amount of burping will fix the issue.
You currently have no signs of an airlock or blockage in the matrix.

Get Vida on it.

Could it be the hot/cold flap isn't moving inside the CCM? Might have been stuck on cold air. Side motor or flap arms may be worth a check. On my Left hand driving these are located on the drivers side, they look like two long metal arms.
