Central Locking Issues?
Hi All, I've seen threads roughly along these lines but not the shame and I'm a bit stuck.
I picked up a 2000 V70 T5 at the weekend (my first Volvo) and since then a few electrical gremlins have appeared - it all worked fine when I picked it up. The rear doors and boot, do not unlock and I can't even open them from the inside. It's also affecting the fuel filler cap, so it won't be long until I have to stop using it (but who knows when as the fuel gauge has stopped reading too!!). Because all of it has gone at the same time, It strikes me as being an electrical issue so I want your advice whether they're connected at all? Also the indicator squib has an intermittent fault but I have a new squib coming soon. Is there a chance that some dodgy/degraded wiring behind the dash could affect the central locking? Is there a relay on that model which covers all the rear locks but not the front? - drivers door and front passenger door are fine. Thanks for your help. |

I would start by checking all the relays in the rear control module. I know at least one of the rear doors shares a relay with the fuel door. Here’s a screen shot of the layout of the RCM:

All items mentioned by Bewsa are controlled from the Rear Electronic Module (REM)
The fuel gauge is an all electronic affair so if it doesn't work there is no power to the REM or the can-bus is faulty. To begin with check the fuses in the REM, especially No 1 and No 2. If this doesn't solve the problem check the wiring for the can bus. The wiring starts in CEM(located above the feet of the passenger) and ends up in REM(located according to pierremcalpin screenshot). I think the color coding for the can-bus wiring is one yellow cable and one green cable. If it is an ex Police car the wiring behind the dash can be messy/dodgy Last edited by Hasse53; Feb 15th, 2019 at 21:01. |
