There are more 262s about than you think! Not all on the road. of course, but several resting or on restoration. I sold my rusting but smooth 265 to a respected club member last year, who blew the engine in his 262: there is one in a garden on the way to Southampton, and I saw one on ebay last autumn in the Crawley area. Then there's those I mentioned earlier....
However, more importantly, do I espy a Ford 100E (or even 107E) next to your 262 pic in your gallery? For a brief period in the early '70s I had one: nice except 3rd gear was missing...... It may have had that 4-speed 'box but with no 3rd one still had to scream it in 2nd in order to get enough oomph to change into top and not run out of puff again! I was (relatively) glad to get back to the family E93A (upright Popular) again. not because it had more go but at least it all functioned! However, in those distant days, with a new mortgage and family, we were all paupers. Also there was no classic car movement; only new, old or vintage, so no following to speak of. Mind you, even now, those '50s Fords are not worth a lot (I got just £500 for my resprayed car a few years ago) and they are a bit archaic as compared with big comfy Volvo's! Paul |

Hi Paul
Yes your right about the other car in the picture. I went to a classic car show be it a small one, which was mainly all Fords, except there were some buses, vans and a tank ! (and I dont mean mine is the tank). My very first car was a Ford Poplar 100E and it cost me £30 I can even remember the reg WLY648, I hate to think where it is now. |

An odd thing happened to me a few years back. Looking for a resto, I was put in touch with a guy in Lewes who had a black 262C and took it for a test drive. I decided to take a few days to make a decision. Some days later the owner phoned me to ask if I knew where the car is! It transpired that it had been stolen!

Hi Johnjp
Wow, fancy that, I've only ever seen pictures of black 262C's but not sure if they were produced in colours, I've only ever read Gold, and Silver, in my manual. I have seen pictures of them in all sorts of colours, in the states they supe them up and cut the bonnet to bits etc. Dont like that very much the more original they are, the better. I did take the LW, MW radio out of mine, I couldnt survive that ! |
