Default Smell of Petrol

Hi

I have noticed recently that my car is smelling of petrol - and not just the usual old-car smell of petrol but really strong, and seems to be stronger in the rear of the car (it's a saloon) as in the back seats.

I'm not losing fuel and I've checked fuel line from the pump to the carb.

I'm thinking it's a breather issue maybe?

no fuel spilt in the car

any ideas?

Thanks

Big pipe from the filler neck? Especially the rubber bit with hose clips.

Big pipe from the filler neck? Especially the rubber bit with hose clips. Maybe the fuel gauge sender. Pulling up the boot carpet reveals the top of the tank.

Really hard to say. I could have parked up and return to the car and can smell it from 50 yards away

Then I'll lean down into the rear footwells and it's strong.....but not lal the time

I need to expose the pipes etc. in the boot and take it form there I think

Thanks

From 50 yards? Looks like a leak. have you checked on the ground underneath? Blow down filler if you can and listen for gurgle sound. Definatly lift boot floor and check filler hose. Good luck. FYI when I had a fuel smell it came from poorly fitting fuel pipe in engine bay. Warm engine moves it around.

My distance estimation is terrible - when i said 50 yards i actually meant 5...

i will have a look under the cradboard 'bootfloor' and check for leaks, thanks
