VOLVO S60 R 2020 Petrol/ Hybrid Front driver side noise

Hi there
New to this forum, so I am not sure if my thread is in correct category.
I need some advice on my recently purchased Volvo S60 2020 / 70 plate.
The car only done 13k miles & bought it 1 month ago from a dealership ( not a Volvo dealership)
The car is spotless and only had one previous owner.
My issue is I am hearing a squeaky/ knocking noise coming from front driver side. The noise is not always there , I can hear it at low speeds when driving on uneven grumpy Road or when starting to break at traffic lights.
What this noise could be for a 2 year old Volvo car please? I have booked it in with my dealership for inspection, but I need to get an idea beforehand as I don't trust they going to identify it straight away.
Any advice & information much appreciated!

Mine does the same. I have been chasing the fault round the car. Dealer had it for a day and did loads of stuff but noise still there. It is a squeak from the drivers side, kind of in front of the dash board. Never does it over a speed bump, but does it over rough road where car is rocking side to side. Only ever hear it at low speeds.

Someone else had this problem and replaced loads of bits and eventually concluded it was the bottom engine mount going from gearbox to engine.

My current money is on the top engine mount which holds the top of the engine to the firewall just infront of the steering wheel. Keep meaning to see how much that is to replace.

Please update me on what your dealer says as I would be very interested in any other ideas.

Thanks , you explained my issue much better..my car does exactly what you have explained..
I have already taken it back to the dealer once , they had it for 4 days.
A mechanic joined me for a test drive & heard the noise, he said sounds like Ball Joints.
They then checked a found out top Suspension arm ball joint has very slight play.
They advised me that they replaced O/S/F top Suspension arm then test drive the car, knocking noise no longer apparent. I had the car back & there was no noise for a week , then back again !!
I booked it again for next week, so just need ideas to tell the garage for the possible areas to look for & rectify the issue. I think you're right about the gearbox, some time the noise can be heard when turning right or do reverse turns..
Any other possible causes would help me to pass on to the garage and ask them to check.
I have 3 years warranty on the car , so don't leave them alone until the issue is resolved.

The fact the noise went away for a week after they replaced the arm suggests that the fault is more likely than not in this area. It could be a dry bush that side that was disturbed when they stripped down the suspension , then as it bedded back in….but who knows.
If I were you, I’d try and give the various joints of bushes a squirt of something….but not WD40 as that can affected rubber bushes. I’m sure someone will be along soon to recommend a silicone or similar spray,
BTW, I have a similar noise on my 2017 S90… went back to the dealer in 2018 but they said they couldn’t find anything . I just live with it now

BTW, I have a similar noise on my 2017 S90… went back to the dealer in 2018 but they said they couldn’t find anything . I just live with it now

I always coat my rubber bushes and CV joint boots etc in the Wynn's oil stop leak stuff from the can, just spray on, soak and wipe around the bushes with your hands. It works a treat and prevents dirt and grit from seeping into the bushes, the last much longer and do not dry out as easily.

The problem with the anti roll bar bushes on SPA vehicles is that you can't access them without dropping the front subframe down.

I have now booked a diagnostic appointment with a local Volvo dealership. However, in the past 2 days, the squeaky noise has completely gone !!!
I am still taking it to the dealer for them to check all points that could possibly make this annoying noise.
They are changing £180 , so hopefully they will have a good look at all relevant parts & narrow down the noise making part. Will update all if once this is done..

After 2 visits to the Volvo dealer for diagnosis, the dealer mechanics not even close to find the fault , or they knew what was it but happy to keep taking my money and tell me they could not find the fault and further diagnosis needed!!
Finally, a local garage that I have used before for my other cars in the past had a look at my car and managed to find the fault in less than 15 mins and rectify the issue in less than 45 mins. They produced a short report which I quote below for future reference and help others with similar noise ..
" VEHICLE ARRIVED ON SITE WITH A NOISE ON THE SUSPENSION WHIST TURING. INVESTIGATED THE FAULT TO FIND ALL THE STEERING RACK BOLTS LOOSE AND THE STEERING RACK MOVING - DANGEROUS. REMOVED THE BOLTS AND CHECKED FOR ANY DAMAGE, RE-TORQUED THE BOLTS AND FAULT RECTIFIED".

Good to hear the problem is solved.

Not so good to hear that the dealership charged you £180 for nothing. Rip off merchants.

As a 2020 car I presume it's been through its first MOT. Something as fundamental as a loose steering rack should have been picked up by the tester; was it the dealer that charged you £180 for nothing?
