There's another problem with having company cars for too long - you forget how to look after your own when you have to.

Like so many others, I went from the economic necessity and perverse joy of rebuilding a gearbox in my shed to the comfort of only making a phone call. When back in the less-protected world, I discovered home mechanics to be a chore.

A lot of my company vehicles were either vans or 4x4s so i've almost always had my own car in addition to the company hack.

I'd better lock mine away in the garage then...

Mine's only got c180k on the clock so I suppose that classes as low mileage. It had full service history and a wad of paperwork when my dad bought it back in 2014 and I kept it after he passed away as it's very useful being an estate. It's only a 2.0l auto (SE) facelift model (but with the old type dash) so probably quite rare in its own right.

My other car is a MG ZT and I think when I'm out I've often seen more Volvos then ZT/75s around

That's not old, that's nearly new!

If nothing else, it's 3 years newer than my "modern" anyway!

Either way, glad you're enjoying it and there's something about a RWD Volvo estate with a big 6-pot lurking under the sharp (well sharper, both are relatively blunt! ) end that surprises (and terrifies) onlookers and other traffic alike.

Speaking of endangered species... my fleet

1992 Volvo 940, in pretty rude health, probable favourite
1995 Volvo 960 - repairable, corrosion hole and ABS sensor issue nothing unsurmountable
2004 Volvo V70 D5 - surprisingly enjoyable but pretty soulless, no handbrake and wishbones need replacing though, half the costs of the other two.

I don't really mind having three, but it does bother me having to insure and tax them all. The total purchase price for all three was 850 quid over two years ago they've lasted a combined 30,000 miles easily so far.

Opinions? Snog, marry, avoid?

92 940 - Marry.

04 V70 - AVOID!!! AVOID!!! AVOID!!! Its a diseasel and will soon cost you £2/L just to put fuel in!

Ha! At 2 quid a litre diesel, the V70 will still be cheaper to run than the 960 (44mpg compared to 20mpg) but I get your point. It is a dirty bastard.

Gas the 960 and have fuel at 54p/L in that case! Even cleaner and you can get rid of the oil burner!
