Hi Karen,
I recently had my neighbour fit a pair of coil springs for me as I was too busy to do it myself. He has a ramp and stuff, and considers himself an ameteur mechanic. So felt comfortable letting him do it. However, shortly after getting it back, I did notice a noise, like a clunking sound sometimes. So I took it to my proper mechanic who told me that the springs were fitted upside-down. Could that be a possibility for you? |

It is very easy to assemble the spring upside down - don't ask how I know😥 If the spring is upside down it will have a bow in the coils instead of sitting true around the strut - it will then rub on the inner wing when on full lock making a 'twanging' sound as the steering is moved back and forth.

I just told her the same thing myself. She didn't believe me either! I don't know why folk ask for HELP and then choose to ignore what we advise. I do agree it very easy to fit the springs upside down. I've managed to do it twice in the time I've had my car and renewed front springs due to random breakages. It is rather tiresome though!
