Smile Droning noise fixed - it was the OSF wheel bearing...

Dear All,

So our Volvo dealer took the car in for the tyre swap and, while it was up on the ramp with all four wheels off, they went around each wheel and checked for the noisy wheel bearing.

It was the OSF and, in a demonstration of excellent customer service, called me up at 9:15am, told me the fault, quoted £380 for the repair and confirmed that they could procure the part by lunchtime and have the car fixed and back with us by 5pm - fully valeted.

Our Indy was quoting £300 if the job was straightforward or up to £420 should the wheel bearing prove difficult to remove because of their recent experience on an XC70 (which required the drive shaft to be removed before they could get the wheel bearing off due to corrosion etc.).

My dealer tends to take some or all of the £pain when jobs start to go wrong for reasons like that and, coupled with the promise of an instant no hassle fix, they got the work.

I have been known on this site to be somewhat critical of my dealer in the past but, to be fair, they have really been good in the last 18-24mths and it's only right that I acknowledge that - Clelands of the Borders, Galashiels.

Silent running has returned to the cabin of our beloved SUV

David
