  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Having looked around again online I do think that the Shell 5w40 is going to be the best choice as mentioned. Seems like it is much more available as well.

There was mention earlier in the post that if there are signs of rattling / tapping that 5w40 would be better.

This put me off a little, as I haven't experience any of this so wondered if running a viscosity like 5w40 might be detrimental in the long run in terms of internal seals and engine efficiency?

5w40 is listed in the handbook so I'm sure its all ok, but just want to check before committing to an order.

Its fine. The shell is a very light 5w40, hence my 2.5w35 thing earlier. The 0w30, 0w40 and shell 5w40 mentioned in this thread are all great choices for this engine.

If you look at the table toward the end of the oil thread, you'll see the viscosities, ave a nosy, you mighy find it useful for your mindset re oil. There is motul 5w40 on there which is a typical 5w40, as well as the original unavailable castrol edge 0w30, so you'll see how the shell and others compare.
