Default Xc60 cutting out while driving upon accelerating

Hi all,

I hope someone can help us. Our 2010 xc60 cut out while accelerating to pass another car on a motorway .....terrifying few seconds we coasted to safety on the hard shoulder. We switched the car off and it restarted ... The same thing happened again but this time we had to get it towed to the nearest garage. He replaced the fuel pressure regulator ....I picked up the car and upon driving it back ..same thing again ... It started again so back to the garage...he told me he had not programmed it. Off I went again. Same thing again on the motor way to the airport... Disaster....missed flights etc ..gof towed back to the garage...told me he would replace the fuel pump. Long story short be also did the wiring loom. So off I went again ....I was nnow confident that the car was ok and booked the ferry in Santander to go back to Ireland and drove from southern Spain ....same thing again just outside Madrid....my nerves are gone at this stage...got to Santander...the Vovlo dealer here can't take it in and the ferry is On Thursday ....there is also a shuddering when accelerating...I ease up on the pedal and is goes and carries along nicely. Any body ever have anything remotely similar?

Thanks in advance

Trish

Can’t really help but engine and gearbox will possibly help D4/D5 manual/auto etc

Mileage, any warning lights? Need someone with Volvo diagnostics software really (it’s called. VIDA) to plug it in and have a look around possible drive with laptop connected and get it to fault.

Was garage that did fuel stuff a specialist? What was the reasoning for the diagnosis? phone them up, as their misdiagnosis has stranded you.

Also worth a call to Volvo uk/Ireland to see if they can offer any advice. Don’t suppose you have Volvo assist breakdown cover?

Back to basics write down as much as you can remember about each time it has cut out...... speed, gear, rpm, weather etc etc etc

Does car restart immediately after dying? Does it take a few seconds or minutes?

I had something similar on a XC70 many moons ago and after months of (sometimes dangerous) agony and many trials it turned out to be the fuel pump relay ...

Worth a try especially if you can swap one from a "donor car" to test before you commit to buying one.

Really needs to go to a dealer with the correct diagnostics to read potentially a volvo specific fault code.

Is it a Diesel & has the fuel filter been changed recently ?

IIRC somebody had a very similar issue when a pattern filter was fitted, under hard acceleration the filter was restricting the fuel flow & causing the car to go into limp mode due to pressure/flow dropping.
