Volvo XC70 2011- Tailgate stops whilst closing/opening, not

Hello there!

My first post on Volvo forums.
Just trying to get some advice. For the past 5 months, our Volvo XC70 2011 tailgate has been driving us mad.

When we press the exterior unlock button it starts opening, only to stop half way up. When we press the close button found on the interior of the tailgate, it will start closing, only to stop at some point on way down.
And the really annoying thing, it does the 70% of time, with other times working normally. So everytime we open/close we hold our breath to see the outcome!

Does anyone have any suggestions what it could be?

From research these are the things I've tried:

1) Resetting lock by pressing close button for 3 seconds and then pressing close again
2) Taking off the plastic cover over the interior tailgate lock, and checking if a little switch is in the correct place. And it is.

If anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated!

Try resetting the opening setting .open tailgate pushing it to were you want it then press and hold the open button on the dash . The opening is adjustable in case you have a low garage ceiling and dont want to damage the tailgate.
Worth a try before getting auto electrician involved.
